The Murray State Racers women’s golf team heads to the UNF Collegiate for a two-day event at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida. Play begins with 36 holes Monday and the final 18 Tuesday in the 54-hole event hosted by North Florida University.
Coach Velvet Milkman sends out a starting five of Payton Carter, Raeysha Surendran, Briana McMinn, Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria and Ana Garcia Picchi. This group has a combined 18 career top-20 finishes.
2021 marks the sixth-straight appearance for the Racers in the UNF event that is being played for a ninth-straight season. The Racers finished sixth and third in 2018 and 2019.
The Racers are coming off a successful trip to the Kiawah Island Classic last week where they placed sixth in a field of 41 teams and Surendran placed second after she carried the lead into the final round.

About Murray State Women’s Golf
The Racers’ program is in its 28th season overall, with the founder of the program, Coach Velvet Milkman guiding the way as the only coach the Racers have ever had. She started the Murray State program in the 1993-94 school year and has coached championship-level student-athletes that have produced 12 OVC championships, the most of any coach at Murray State. Also serving for many years as the Murray State Senior Woman Administrator, Milkman did MSU Athletics a great service by serving as Interim Athletics Director from July 2018 through February 2019. Milkman is involved at the NCAA level shaping women’s golf on a national scale. She served a four-year term (2009-12) on the NCAA Women’s Golf Committee including two years as chair.

Located in Murray, Kentucky, the athletics department at Murray State University is a member of NCAA D-I and plays in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Racers have 15 programs including men’s teams for baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf and women’s teams for basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field and volleyball. MSU also has a rifle program that is coed. The Racers are one of the founding members of the Ohio Valley Conference from its beginnings in 1948.
